• Ridgefield Destroys Wilton, Retains Winter Garden Cup – Highlights

    [February 10, 2012]

Wearing black in their home rink did not make any difference to the Tigers, as they handedly defeated the upstart Wilton Warriors 7-0this afternoon in front of a packed Winter Garden Arena

The Tigers went up early, striking first on Sean Wilkinson’s beautiful toe drag to the middle, beating the Wilton goaltender on the blocker side. Shortly thereafter, Jack Tregurtha would tally a power play goal, absorbing Wilkie’s shot, and turning around to finish on his backhand. To cap off a dominating first period, Jack Christensen tallied a power play goal with Danny McMullan picking up the assist

The 2nd period was highy eventful, as both teams showed their displeasure for each other in one form or another. Wilkinson would add his second of the game, with another assist from McMullan. After the Tigers went down 2 men and were forced to kill off a 5 on 3 and a major penalty, the Wilkie show was capped off with a dazzling effort from the penalty kill trio of Timmy Kelly, McMullan and Wilkinson, with it being capped with Wilkie’s snipe from just above the slot to make the score 5-0. Wilkinson would continue, adding his 4th on a nifty backhander from a clever deke after another strong kill from Kelly and McMullan.

The scoring was capped off by Senior forward Terry Guider, netting the final Ridgefield tally. It was a good night on the scoresheet for the Tigers, with Johnny Richards tallying two assists, McMullan with 3 of his own, and Timmy Kelly with 3 assists as well. The Tigers were anchored by their lockdown defense led by Senior Captain Brendan Bossidy, Sophomore Jamie Kelly, Junior Ian Ball, Sophomore Henry Gough, and Sophomore Tyler Trombetta. An integral part to the victory was Nate Gliedman’s shutout performance, turning away every Wilton chance incuding an impressive glove save on star Wilton forward Matt Kobyra.
